About Seafarer Energy

Seafarer Energy is developing the first local fuel bunkering, small-scale LNG facility in North America. Our small-scale LNG facilities will liquefy natural gas for direct transfer to bunkering vessels. Seafarer’s distributed fueling network will offer shipping companies fast access to clean, efficient, low-cost LNG.

The local fueling Seafarer system will provide significant efficiency, low-cost and low-emissions advantages over current LNG bunkering which requires transshipment, with consequent evaporation loss and higher carbon emissions. Utilizing domestic natural gas supply for fueling at U.S. ports, as opposed to LNG export, enhances American energy security while reducing shipping costs and lowering prices for end consumers.

Seafarer combines the latest technology, robust engineering solutions and superior geographic location with an experienced team of energy professionals to create best-in-class clean fueling options for the shipping industry.

Seafarer Mid-Atlantic

The proposed Seafarer Mid-Atlantic facility will source plentiful Marcellus basin natural gas. The limited export options for the Marcellus basin create opportunities for competitive low-cost fueling for the foreseeable future. Low-cost LNG will not only enhance the economic case for LNG conversion for ocean-going vessels, but also incentivizes conversion for smaller classes of vessels.

Seafarer Texas Gulf Coast

The proposed Gulf Coast facility will be the first small-scale LNG facility in the Gulf of Mexico region. Unlike the very large-scale liquefaction export facilities, the small-scale Seafarer facility will be purpose-built for the shipping industry offering high efficiency and responsive service. Sourcing Permian basin natural gas will provide Seafarer customers with highly competitive fuel pricing.

Sustainability

Seafarer local LNG fueling is the most energy, carbon and cost-efficient solution for shipping. Replacing heavy fuel oil (HFO) with LNG satisfies IMO requirements by reducing sulphur oxide emissions (over 99%) and nitrogen oxide emissions (over 90%) as well as reducing carbon emissions by over 20% and particulates over 99%.

Beyond the direct savings in shipping emissions, Seafarer will be sourcing natural gas from key basins: Marcellus, Permian and Eagle Ford. Marcellus basin production has among the lowest carbon intensity in the world. Due to a lack of markets, Permian Basin natural gas is regularly flared off. Seafarer will utilize this wasted energy asset to provide clean fueling for Atlantic and Gulf shipping.

Seafarer is developing the ability to incorporate Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) and biogas feedstock optionality to further reduce the carbon profile for customers who request or require it.

Seafarer Energy: Solutions for Today and the Future

With fully electric shipping not viable today, and unlikely to be viable for decades, it is vital the shipping industry aggressively converts to the most environmentally efficient and lower-carbon options for fueling. Seafarer direct fueling LNG is the best environmental option for the foreseeable future.
